Relieves Pain, Restores Motion, Increases Flexibility
“Myo” means muscle and “fascia” is connective tissue. The body is composed of connective tissue that makes up and surrounds all the muscles, in a sort of 3-D web. These tissues, when healthy, are fluid and stretchy, and respond to the many demands we make on them in our daily lives. From emotional stress, trauma, or repetitive use, these tissues can get gummed up and stuck, causing painful ‘knots’ of tension. Myofascial therapy is comprised of a range of slow-moving techniques that relieve the knots and restore fluidity to the tissues, from gentle warming holds to slow stretching to deep direct pressure. The therapist is deeply focused on feeling and working with the fascial tissues, while clients often report a meditative state or floating sensation. This type of work can feel both subtle and intense, and can have profound healing effects on the body and the mind.
